Dear members,
I’m sure you’ve all heard this: “Patience is a virtue, possess it if you can; seldom found in woman, never found in man!” Well, I’m a woman but often fall into the other category as far as patience is concerned!
In fact, I’m almost as bad as children when something I’m looking forward to seems an endless time in coming. How many sleeps left before we ... ? Patience. Do you have any or are you like this man?
A lonely man decided life would be more fun if he had a pet. So he went to the pet store and told the owner that he wanted to buy an unusual pet. After some discussion, he finally bought a centipede, which came in a little white box.
He took the box home, found a good location for it and decided he would start off by taking his new pet to the bar to have a drink. So he asked the centipede in the box, “Would you like to go to Frank’s with me and have a beer?” But there was no answer from his new pet. This bothered him a bit, but he waited a few minutes and then asked him again, “How about going to the bar and having a drink with me?”
But again, there was no answer from his new friend and pet. He waited a few minutes more, thinking about the situation, and decided to ask him one more time ... this time putting his face up against the centipede’s house and shouting, “Hey, in there! Would you like to go to Frank’s place and have a drink with me?”
A little voice came out of the box: “I heard you the first time! I’m putting on my shoes!”
It seems such a long time, doesn’t it, since all the edicts and the voting for your new minister, the Reverend Alison Jaffrey, have come and gone. Your Nominating Committee worked long and hard, seeking out your new minister, with many hours spent in meetings discussing responses and enquiries. I am happy to tell you that Meldrum and Bourtie Parish Church of Scotland attracted much interest in comparison to many, many other vacant charges. It’s been an interesting and exciting journey ... and we’re nearly there, for as you know, Alison preached as Sole Nominee in Meldrum Church on Sunday 25th April 2010 and received an enormously positive response as could be seen by the result of the ballot.
Presbytery has all the necessary paper work and so, as far as my job is concerned with respect to dealing with the legal aspect of the Vacancy, my task is over. All that remains is for Presbytery to set a date in consultation with Alison and you’re all up and running! I shall be around on some Sundays over the next few weeks and will continue to enjoy these opportunities of sharing worship with you.
God bless.
Eleanor E Macalister,
Interim Moderator.
